A major emphasis is put
on the health of the calves Lykes markets. Employees are educated annually in Beef Quality
Assurance (BQA) and have been since the early 90’s and
all are certified by the Florida Beef Quality Producer
program. All calves are vaccinated and processed with
two rounds of vaccinations and Electronic Identification
(EID) tags prior to shipping. The calves are
source verified and shipped with all BQA paperwork.
Our ranch hands take pride in a low stress handling of
the calves and at shipping time calves are sorted,
weighed and loaded on the buyers trucks in a timely and
efficient manner prior to the heat of the day.
Another important factor is cattle
nutrition. Our ranch hands ensure that
mineral and salt is available to the cattle at all
times. In addition to supplements, major emphasis is
put on the forage quality. Forage analysis along with
soil samples are taken periodically to maximize forage
growth and nutritional value.
The quality of Lykes calves through
top genetics, health program, source verified and BQA
documents and attention to proper nutrition sets our
calves apart from most others. This difference shows at
marketing time with heated bidding for the calves and
replacement heifers offered for sale. Calves are
sold through private treaty and video sales.
Replacement heifers are sold at public auction and
private treaty sales.
Calves are sold in uniform load lots
from one to many loads per contract. Calves are
generally shipped in late spring (May-June) and late
summer (August-October).
Lykes
Ranch takes pride
in customer service and producing a quality and
wholesome product for the beef industry.
