Farming Leases Lykes Bros. currently
has several thousand acres engaged in farming operations under leases.
The bulk of those lands lie in close proximity to Lake Okeechobee which
moderates temperatures for nearly year-round farming.
Our farms are
located within the South Florida Water Management District and are
permitted both for water use and surface water management. Through
sound engineering design, we have constructed the farms to manage
irrigation and drainage needs to their maximum efficiency. All drainage
water leaving the farm is treated through a series of retention basins
which reduces nutrient levels leaving the farm and provides a positive
effect on water quality in the Lake Okeechobee basin. Our farming areas
are mainly comprised of well drained sandy soils which allow rapid
drainage and excellent water table management.
With a flexible leasing program we are able to offer prospective tenants variable acreages to accommodate their crop requirements and a lease structure that maximizes benefits from a cash flow standpoint. For more information please contact:
