Sugar Cane

Lykes Bros. entered into the sugar cane business in the mid-1960’s with the beginning of sanctions against the communist government of Fidel Castor in Cuba.  In fact, this was the catalyst that began the Florida sugar cane industry.

Our sugar cane production has continued to grow including a major expansion to the Moore Haven farm in 1988 and with the addition of Brighton farm in 2001.  These farms continue as an integral part of Lykes Ranch.

Lykes utilizes precision agriculture in the production of sugar cane to insure that we are achieving maximum yields and efficiency.

We continue to cooperate in the development of new and better varieties with USDA, IFAS and the Florida Sugar Cane League.
