Sugarcane

Lykes Bros. has been a sugarcane grower for many years, dating back to operations in Cuba before Fidel Castro's takeover. The company currently has more than 3,000 acres in sugar cane through its own growing operations or land leases.

Farm Leases

Our farms are located within the South Florida Water Management District and are permitted both for water use and surface water management. Through sound engineering design, we have constructed the farms to manage irrigation and drainage needs to their maximum efficiency. All drainage water leaving the farm is treated through a series of retention basins that reduces nutrient levels leaving the farm and provides a positive effect on water quality in the Lake Okeechobee basin. Our farming areas are comprised of well-drained sandy soils that allow rapid drainage and excellent water table management.
